For many small business owners, finding affordable, high-quality health insurance for their team can feel out of reach. Rising costs have forced some employers to scale back benefits or skip coverage entirely. YOUR Union County Chamber is proud to share a new solution designed specifically for small businesses.

A Partnership Focused on Small Business

The North Carolina Chamber has partnered with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBS) to create Carolina HealthWorks, a new health plan option available to small businesses that are members of YOUR Union County Chamber.

This innovative plan uses a Multiple Employer Welfare Arrangement (MEWA) model to help small businesses band together and access the same kind of cost savings and benefits that larger companies enjoy. By pooling resources, small businesses gain the buying power of a much larger group which makes quality coverage more attainable and more affordable.

Who is Eligible for Carolina HealthWorks?

There are multiple plan options, including health savings accounts (HSAs), no deductibles, dental coverage, vision coverage, and more.

In order to be eligible for Carolina HealthWorks, a business must:

  • • Have 2–50 eligible employees (In accordance with law, companies with two employees are eligible only if the second employee is a non-spouse employee.)
  • • Be headquartered in North Carolina, and
  • • Be a member of a participating local chamber or the NC Chamber

For business owners and HR leaders balancing budgets while caring for employees, this program could be a game-changer.

Why It Matters for Union County Businesses

Small businesses are the backbone of Union County’s economy. They represent innovation, job creation, and community connection. Yet, they often face the steepest challenges when it comes to offering benefits that attract and retain great employees.

“North Carolina leads the nation in business, but is one of the most expensive states for health care,” said Gary Salamido, President and CEO of the NC Chamber. “Carolina HealthWorks is a meaningful step in giving small businesses a tangible, more affordable path forward.”
